Published in Your Schenectady, August 18, 2023

SCHENECTADY- Although Transfinder, a software company based in downtown Schenectady, isn’t likely to become a household name in the short term, its impact nevertheless extends well beyond the city limits.

Founded here in 1988, the corporation has grown from a small operation offering DOS software for IBM PCs to a major presence in its field. Currently, Transfinder provides transportation software to over 2,500 school districts nationwide, and nearly one in three students in the US rides a bus either guided or managed by Transfinder’s tech, including all those in Schenectady County, according to CEO Antonio Civitella.

Republican mayoral candidate for Schenectady, Matt Nelligan, likely has his work cut out for him if he’s to best incumbent Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy, a Democrat, in the November general election.

According to recent data from the New York State Board of Elections, Democrats outnumber Republicans among registered voters nearly two to one across Schenectady County; within city limits, their lead only increases.
